The Bihar Public Service Commission conducts the Teacher Recruitment Examination (BPSC TRE) for thousands of teaching positions across primary, middle, secondary, and higher secondary schools. Because document verification (DV) is strictly audited against the original advertisement deadlines, hundreds of candidates face rejection every cycle due to avoidable certificate errors. Here is a clear breakdown of the qualification standards, reservation requirements, and necessary paperwork.
Class-Wise Educational Eligibility Standards
Teaching posts are divided into four distinct categories, each with its own qualification and teacher eligibility test requirements:
Primary Teacher (Classes 1 to 5)
- Senior Secondary (10+2) with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
- Qualified CTET Paper 1 or Bihar STET Paper 1.
- Note: Following Supreme Court directives, B.Ed degree holders are not eligible for Primary posts.
Middle School Teacher (Classes 6 to 8)
- Graduation in the relevant subject (Math/Science, Social Science, or Languages) plus D.El.Ed or B.Ed.
- Qualified CTET Paper 2 or Bihar STET Paper 1.
Secondary Teacher / TGT (Classes 9 to 10)
- Bachelor degree with at least 50% marks in the concerned subject and B.Ed from an NCTE-recognized institution.
- Qualified Bihar STET Paper 1 in the specific subject.
Higher Secondary Teacher / PGT (Classes 11 to 12)
- Master degree with at least 50% marks in the relevant subject and B.Ed.
- Qualified Bihar STET Paper 2 in the concerned subject.
Domicile and Category Reservation Rules
Under Bihar state rules:
- Horizontal Women Reservation: Bihar provides 50% reservation for female candidates in Primary teaching posts and 35% in Secondary/Higher Secondary posts.
- Reservation Benefit: Reserved category benefits (SC, ST, EBC, BC, EWS) apply only to candidates with a permanent domicile in Bihar. Candidates from other states are treated under the Unreserved (General) category.
- Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) Certificate: BC and EBC candidates must submit an NCL certificate issued in the name of the candidate with father details (not husband details for married female candidates).
